A sleeper of the vintage, this excellent Du Tertre is reminiscent of this estate's fine 1979. Sweet aromas of black cherry jam infused with creosote and grilled notes emerge from this dark plum/ruby/purple-colored 1998. Fragrant, with an expansive, rich personality. RP

On the firm side, with cedar and iron notes holding back the core of mulled cherry and plum fruit. Picks up bay leaf and lilac flavors on the taut, but persistent, finish. WS

A plush and flattering style, with beguiling toast wound around a smoldering core of warm plum confiture, dark cherry and currant fruit, and buried hints of charcoal and espresso.
