South Australia is world-famous for it rich and full-boded Shiraz wines, particularly from the historic regions like Barossa and McLaren Vale. In recent years, Pinot Noir has slowly been claiming its place as one of Australia’s most promising reds, with the all-time high quality thanks to passionate winemakers. It is one of the hardest grapes to grow, but producers in South Australia’s cooler climates have mastered the art – and it’s never been better.
Grenache is another up-and-coming hero with elegance and complexity. It has a long history in Australia and now a new wave of creative winemakers is shining the international spotlight on this ever-evolving wine. Nebbiolo is a pleasant surprise, which suits particularly well with the cool-climate regions in South Australia, showing enticing floral notes with balanced tannins and acidity, quite different from its counterpart in Italy, but delivering delicious experience from the New World.
