    About Professional Wine Ratings
A wine score is the quickest, simplest way for a wine critic to communicate their opinion about the quality of a wine. Professional wine rating scores from a wide range of critics, for example Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator, are usually adjusted for the 100-point scale. A mean of these scores is presented for specific vintages of a wine, as well as across all vintages.

    About The Wine
There must have been a lot of new oak used back in 2013, as it's still here among the mint and dark chocolate flavours. Still, it's moving easily through its tertiary stage with more savoury and new leather inputs. JH

    Food Match
A good marriage of food and wine ideally provides more pleasure than enjoying either one separately. As each of us have different sensitivities to various flavours and preferences, the definition of 'perfect pairing' varies, and this makes up the fun part of food and wine pairing.

The 2019 The McRae Wood Shiraz is concentrated and lush, with layers of deli meat, black berries and spicy tannins. The tannins are actually the draw card here—despite the fruit occupying a most delicious space—and they are fine, chalky, chewy and ductile, all very good things. Delicious, true to place and style. It's a flavoursome, fuller-figured red with clove and cinnamon wood a feature over red plum, raspberry coulis and figgy, dried fruit characters. Thick in the palate with ribs of firm, gravelly tannin, the wine finishes with decent length, albeit a bit woody/dusty over finesse and freshness. For those seeking a liberally seasoned, bolder red, this works. JH
