1. The Road to Master Sommelier: “Uncorked” (2020)
Lots of wine enthusiasts would have joined related courses to learn but might encountered difficulties in absorbing jargon as a beginner. But when it comes to be a Master Sommelier with only 4% passing rate, from theories, blind tasting and serving skills, this group of elites with less than 300 global members have basically turned world wines into flesh and blood. In this movie, Elijah must balance his dream of becoming a master sommelier between his family expectations. Together with Elijah, we walk down the tough road in becoming a Master Sommelier.
2. To Pinot Noir Obsessions: “Sideways” (2004)
Sweeping through the Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Motion Picture in Comedy or Musical along with Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes, “Sideways” is all about Miles and his buddy Jack on a trip through California’s wine country. Through the lens and palate of the pair commenting on types of California grape, we see appreciation on wine through tasting by appearance, nose and palate.
The enchanting wine humours that are full of wisdom are also something viewers will found relating. Miles’ fond on Pinot has once made Pinot Noir super popular in the US, so why not pour yourself a glass to enjoy the charm!
3. Love in vineyards: “A Walk in the Clouds” (1995)
In “A Walk in the Clouds”, Keanu Reeves met the daughter of a vineyard owner by coincidence. Being the best person ever, he posed as her husband, but inevitably fell in love with each other under this breath-taking vineyard. The movie was shot in the famous Napa Valley, where we can learn the tradition of winery while enjoying its picturesque landscape. Before immersing into the love bubbles, why not choose a bottle for yourself to add extra indulgence?
4. A Gift from Angels: “The Angels’ Share” (2012)
As a whisky lover, you must have heard of “Angel’s Share”? It refers to whisky evaporation during aging process in the wooden barrels, where people amusingly described as “a tax charged to angels”.
Inspired by the term, “The Angels’ Share” tells a story of 4 protagonists’ life in a distillery after sentenced to Community Service Orders. The comedy exhibits the process in whisky making with lots of laughter guaranteed, let’s make it a fun and easy learning!
5. The Rise of California Wine: “Bottle Shock” (2008)
Starring the talented Alan Rickman and our Star Trek Captain Chris Pine, “Bottle Shock” is based on a true story of “Judgment of Paris” in 1976, where California wines triumphed over a list of eminent Burgundy Whites & Reds and brought itself to the world’s attention.
