Single Malt Whisky
Single malt whiskies are made using only malted barley, water and yeast from a single distillery. Producers are required to specify the place of origin on the label such as Speyside, Islay and Island.
Speyside Whisky Region
Speyside is the region with the highest density of whisky distilleries in the world. It is famous for having a fertile valley of rivers, especially the River Spey. Speyside whiskies are known for being frugal with peat and fruity. Macallan, The Singleton, Glenfiddich and The Glenlivet are some of the signature brands from the region.
1. Macallan
The Macallan is one of the most respected and admired names in Scottish whisky, nestled on a plateau above the river Spey in north-east Scotland. 2. The Singleton

3. Glenfiddich
The global top-selling Scotch whisky label Glenfiddich, nurtured a dream to make the ‘best dram in the valley’, produces whisky with complex and intense flavours. Glenfiddich’s iconic triangular shaped bottle was inspired by the 3 major elements to make a Glenfiddich whisky, which are “water, air and malted barley”. It is still considered as a radical design of the time now!
4. The Glenlivet
Founded by George Smith, The Glenlivet has long been crafted in the remote Livet Valley in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside region since 1824. The Glenlivet uses the mineral-rich water that comes from Josie’s Well, it helps to form the flavours during mashing and fermentation, whilst the specific height and width of the copper stills add a delicate yet complex character. The Glenlivet whiskies are smooth and aromatic, which are surely worth a try.
Islay Whisky Region
The soft water of Islay produces smooth single malt whisky with smoky, peaty style. Famous brands include Ardbeg and Laphroaig.
5.Ardbeg
Whisky connoisseurs have called Ardbeg “as close to perfection as it could be”. Ardbeg expressions have won prestigious titles including World Whisky of the Year, Scotch Whisky of the Year and World’s Best Single Malt. Ardbeg Uigeadail, often seen as the best Ardbeg expression, marries Ardbeg’s traditional deep, smoky notes with luscious, raisiny tones of old ex-Sherry casks. 6.Laphroaig
Laphroaig is located on the south coast of the Isle of Islay. It is famous for its strong smoky character derived from peat. As the most favourite whisky of Prince Charles, it is the only whisky being honoured the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales. Island Whisky Region
Island whiskies are whiskies produced on any island of Scotland outside of Islay. Island whiskies are not as smoky than most Islay whiskies, famous brands include Highland Park and Talisker.
7.Highland Park (Island)
Highland Park was named ‘Best Spirit in the World’ by USA whisky expert Paul Pacult in the “Spirit Journal”. Located on Orkney, Highland Park is one of the most remote Scotch whisky distilleries in the world. Highland Park uses peat from Orkney. It’s cool and maritime climate allows the spirit to interact gently, produces fabulously rich, layered whiskies with smoky flavour and heather-honey sweetness.
8.Talisker
As the Isle of Skye’s only single malt, Talisker is signatured for its maritime character. It captures the spirit of its island home perfectly. Bursting with the famous sweet smokiness, there are surprising subtle notes of black pepper, and yet rounded with a smooth finish. It is even called as “The King of Spirits”. Talisker whiskies are the perfect match for seafood, especially oysters.The gently salty notes of the whisky cohere with the freshness of the oysters.
Blended Scotch Whisky
Blended Scotch whisky is produced through the mixing of single malt whiskies and single grain whiskies. This creates a broader depth of flavour and allows easier control of flavours and quality. Johnnie Walker is one of the signature blended Scotch Whisky brands.
9.Johnnie Walker
Established in 1820, Johnnie Walker has been known worldwide for its unique blended scotch whisky quality. Johnnie Walker Blue Label is the masterpiece of the brand.
