Located in Saint-Emilion, Montlabert is devoted to making wines that truly reflect its terroir. Its wines play on elegance rather than power.
Certified Terra Vitis since the 2011 vintage, Montlabert manages its vineyards using sustainable growing methods.
The vineyard is planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, growing in deep sandy-gravel soil with a clay subsoil. The veins of blue clay on the surface are similar to those found at the appellation’s prestigious neighbours and which are typical of the great Merlot terroirs.
Incorporating tradition and innovation, Montlabert was promoted to the status of Grand Cru Classé in the latest Saint-Émilion Wine Classification revealed in 2022.
Château Montlabert, the property's first wine, needs a little patience. This is a wine made for laying down, with a beautifully dense structure, powerful flavours and excellent length. This Merlot/Cabernet Franc blend is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels and expresses the full elegance and personality of these two famous varietals.Bâtonnage (lees stirring) leads the wine to take on an elegant edge of oak, along with volume and body. “For the 2016 vintage, the climate was unpredictable in every way. But as a result of proficient and successful workmanship since the 2009 vintage, we have crafted a wine with excellent potential, one which is proving to a hit with our customers.” said the team's experts.
La Croix Montlabert is the Chateau’s second wine: a little indulgence for every day, bursting with intense, fruity flavours. This blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels; its molten tannins give it a feeling of smooth freshness.
