This blend of fruit from Ningxia and Shanxi is another success. Ningxia provides richness and intensity with fine tannins, Shanxi brings natural acidity and fruit freshness. Fine oak spices with pine cones, chestnut and subtle vanilla beans to the black and red cherries. Some hawthorn, dried strawberries, dark olives and cumin, too. The subtle salinity on the palate chips away at the weight and texture of the wine, but contributes to a delicious savory, dried-meat character alongside the red fruits. Medium- to full-bodied with firm, chalky tannins. JS
