From the Blewitt Springs single-vineyard estate on sand and ironstone soils. It wasn't entirely a surprise that McLaren Vale's first-among-equals winery should have made this gorgeously succulent wine, but I couldn't help but consulting the thesaurus to be sure 'succulent' covered the field. The entry reads: 'juicy, moist, luscious, soft, tender, mouth-watering, appetising, flavoursome, tasty, delicious.' JH

A plush nose of dried violets, blackberry compote, chocolate, brambles and sugar plums. The palate’s very in tune though with a good serving of pretty acidity, ripe yet steely tannins and a chewy finish. JS

From the old-world Rhone Syrah to the South Australian red sweetheart, Shiraz evolves once again in the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs. Sourced from six unique blocks over 47 hectares on our elevated site, the elegant Yangarra Shiraz is shaped by its connection to the sand and ironstone soils that overlie the ancient North Maslin Sands geological formation beneath. Prepare for the unexpected.
