I've said it before, but the Vale is the finest warm-climate source of cabernet in the country. Saline. Sea spray, a smear of black olive, saltbush, dried sage and blackcurrant. Distinctly maritime. Matured largely in tight-grained older oak for 20 months. A firmament of intelligently gleaned tannins, oak and grape, serve as the savoury marrow. Long and refined. Excellent drinking. JH
