Structured and compact, with a pervasive line of acidity, this requires considerable air to amplify its charms. Once achieved, the flavour set remains savoury but with more levity. Dried cranberry and cherry, faded red florals, cracked earth and pepper, the tannins mouth-puckering and sandy – nebbiolo-like. JH

A brambly and bright red fruited grenache that has very attractive purity and effortless appeal, raspberry, dried leaves and herbs, some light spices also in the mix. The palate has assertive drying tannins, plenty of liquorice flavor amid bright raspberry amid red cherry fruits, gently drying finish. JS

Yangarra Old Vine McLaren Vale Grenache 2014 - Museum Release

A stunning old-vine rendering of grenache from a sandy outcrop of McLaren Vale, this has a very powerful yet composed feel to it. The nose has an almost brooding and cryptic air about it. It floats around in a spice-infused cloud of cloves, pepper and cinnamon; it's gently tarry, offering up red plums and dark-berry aromas that are concentrated and build momentum with air. Sturdy, clean-cut tannins deliver staggering fruit concentration with a wealth of ripe dark-cherry and plum flavors. Terrific length. Outstanding value. JS

Ex 1946 Blewitt Springs bush vines planted in a deep sandy dune that Yangarra call The Beach; dry-grown, bunch-sorted, wild yeast, open fermented and basket pressed. Bright clear though deep crimson hue; scented/perfumed. Its red fruit sundae glistens with dew drops on a spider's web, yet also has a savoury echo towards the finish. JH
