Father’s Day Specials – Like Father, Like Son

    JimBarry3

The ideal bottle of gift depends not only on the region it was made, vintage or rating, but also on the story behind it. With Father’s Day coming, let’s hear the stories of wineries which were handed down from father to son. The fathers passed the winemaking technique to their sons, also taught them how to make wine with passion and love. Having a sip of their wine, we first may feel the tannins or fruitiness. If we further taste it, we may also feel the father-and-son love from within!

    MOUNT MARY

Three generations of the Middleton family have dedicated themselves to producing wines of great elegance and distinction. Mount Mary was founded in 1971 by the visionary Dr John Middleton, who quickly established his reputation with exalted wines such as Quintet (red Bordeaux blend) and Triolet (white Bordeaux blend). Today, his son David is the estate’s CEO, while David’s son Sam is winemaker.

    MAJELLA

The Lynn family have been residents of the Penola-Coonawarra district for five generations, and though the first vineyard was planted in 1968, it was not until 1999 that they bottled their own wine. Today, Brian “Prof” Lynn still cares for the 60 hectares under vine with the help of other family members. Entering the Langton’s Classification with Majella The Malleea Cabernet Sauvignon secured the estate a solid place on the A-list.

    ELDERTON

In 1979, Neil and Lorraine Ashmead restored a derelict vineyard and turned it into a winery. They named the winery after the person who planted the vineyard – Samuel Elderton Tolley, and here comes the Elderton winery we are familiar with. With the couple’s effort, the winery was propelled to prominence in the 90s, winning multiple international awards, including Jimmy Watson Trophy & World’s Best Shiraz Trophy. After 40 years since its establishment, the winery has already become one of the most famous wineries in Australia, and the couple’s sons Cameron and Allister now run the estate. They are inherited with their father’s pursuit of quality and also have their own visions on sustainable winemaking.

    JIM BARRY

Jim Barry and his wife Nancy established Jim Barry winery in 1959. As a benchmark producer of world-class Riesling, Jim is credited with helping cement the Clare as one of Australia’s premium wine-producing regions. His son Peter is the second-generation family winemaker. Facing the tremendous success of the winery led by his father, he exceeded everyone’s expectation and expanded the label to the Barossa, where he created a legendary, ultra-premium Shiraz – The Armagh.
